Resolve the renewal you have, not the penalty you fear

An expired Oath is a three-way roster decision. Meet buys certainty, Haggle trades risk for a 15% wage saving, and Walk gives the bed back now. A rejected haggle hurts the unresolved renewal, but the current bundle clears its marker when you meet the revised ask or later succeed. It is not a scar across every future contract.

The decision

Three buttons, three different jobs

01

Meet

Pay the current ask, add 6 morale and clear a pending refusal marker.

Use when: The hero is important, the haggle odds are poor, or certainty matters more than savings.

02

Haggle

Offer 85% of the ask. Success adds 3 morale and clears the marker.

Use when: The hero is happy and the origin-based odds make the downside acceptable.

03

Walk

Remove the hero immediately, clean up bonds and assignments, and send them to a random rival.

Use when: The roster can absorb the loss and the renewed wage is not worth carrying.

Haggle math

Origin sets the baseline; morale moves it

YOUTH

55%

Base chance · ask multiplier 0.85

OTHER

35%

Base chance · ask multiplier 1.00

POACHED

12%

Base chance · ask multiplier 1.12

Morale adds (morale − 55) ÷ 200, with the downside floored at −20 percentage points. A pending refusal subtracts another 25 points. The ask also includes a renown premium, strongest on heroes rated four stars or better. Oathbound multiplies the ask by 0.62 and adds 35 percentage points to haggle odds; Loyal uses 0.88 and +15 points; Greedy uses 1.10 and −15 points. Only the first matching trait in that order applies. The combined ask multiplier has a 0.5 floor.

Calculate this renewal

If Haggle fails

The pending renewal gets worse

  • The displayed pending ask rises by 15%.
  • The hero loses 10 morale immediately.
  • The unresolved renewal is marked spurned, cutting another haggle's chance by 25 points.
  • Meet clears the marker; a successful later Haggle clears it too.

Do not confuse the exits

Walk is not active release

Walking away at expiry removes the hero with no severance. Releasing someone whose Oath is still active is different: severance is 35% of the remaining contract's settlements, capped at one game year's 20 settlements. Check the bed, party coverage and bonds before using either exit.

A safe renewal routine

Settle these four questions in order

  1. 1 · COVER

Does walking break the next usable party?

  2. 2 · BOOKS

Can the next six-day settlement carry the ask?

  3. 3 · ODDS

Is the 15% saving worth the refusal state?

  4. 4 · RESOLVE

Finish the pending renewal before advancing.
