A cost and an upside
Coin-Minded is the mirror of Thrifty on wages, with a real upside attached.
Oath renewals. The renewal ask is multiplied by 1.1. It stacks with the contract traits that are checked first: a Loyal and Coin-Minded hero asks 0.88 × 1.1, about 0.97 of the normal rate, and a Greedy one about 1.21. The oath negotiator shows the full quote.
Quest morale. When a quest ends, a hero normally gains 10 morale for a triumph, 2 for a mixed result and loses 8 for an ill-fated or lost one. A Coin-Minded hero gains 20 for a triumph. The other results are unchanged.
Kit. If any piece of a Coin-Minded hero’s gear is shabby or battered, they lose 1 morale when the game checks how they feel about their kit, as long as their morale is above 30.
Is the trade worth it?
It depends entirely on how you use the hero. Morale never recovers on its own, so a hero who gets a double lift from every big win is much easier to keep happy than the trait card suggests. Send them on quests you expect to win outright and the extra +10 per triumph more than pays for a 10% wage premium in morale terms. Leave them on the bench, or run them on middling contracts, and you pay the premium for nothing.
| Season on the road | Ordinary hero | Coin-Minded hero |
|---|---|---|
| 4 triumphs | +40 morale | +80 morale |
| 2 triumphs, 2 failures | +4 | +24 |
| 4 mixed results | +8 | +8 |
The coin-house offer
In “A House Wants a Champion”, a merchant house asks to borrow one of your best heroes for a stretch, paying the guild a fee. If you let the hero choose, the base chance they take the money and go is 40%. A Coin-Minded hero (like a Greedy, Glory Hunter or Ambitious one) is 25 points more likely to go, at 65%; a Loyal one 25 points less likely. If you would rather keep them, decide on their behalf.
Market day
A Coin-Minded, Thrifty or Hard Bargainer hero on the roster adds a choice to “A Glut at Market”: send them to haggle for 90 gold, against 180 for the quartermaster’s option. The haggler gains 3 morale. See the events page.
Jobs and the route
- Sellsword jobs like it. Sellsword postings list Coin-Minded as a liked trait, adding 5% to the hero’s suitability.
- Forks. As party leader they lean +2 toward a treasure side room, taking it about 80% of the time it is offered with nothing pulling the other way.
- Flavour. Quest reports have Coin-Minded lines, and on pair duty the hero speaks with the “coin” voice shared with Thrifty, Hard Bargainer, Greedy and Light-Fingered.
Managing a Coin-Minded hero
- Give them your better spare gear, never the battered pieces.
- Point them at quests you expect to win. A hero who is both Coin-Minded and Thick-Skinned gains 20 for a triumph and loses only 4 for a failure, which makes risky contracts much cheaper in morale.
- Budget for the higher ask at every renewal; the oaths guide shows how it is built.
Conflicts and rarity
Coin-Minded can never appear with Oathbound or Thrifty.
- Rarity: common, neutral · draw weight 100 of 6,365 · about 1 recruit in 25
- Founding draft: any card.
- In the wiki’s archive: first present in the 2.1.8 build (absent from 2.0.7).
Recruiting
Neutral overall. A small discount is fair on depth players who will not see many quests; on a starter who will run your best contracts, it can be a quiet positive.
