Tireless

No stamina in sight: Tireless is +0.12 discipline with the game's smallest threat rider (+0.04): a formation trait wearing an endurance label.

Behaviour effect

How Tireless nudges a hero's combat-AI parameters. Positive values push the behaviour up, negative values damp it.

  • Discipline+0.12
  • Threat Mult+0.04

A misleading name, a clear data trail

Read the name and you expect an endurance trait. Read the datamine and you find a formation trait: discipline +0.12, threat +0.04, and no stamina, fatigue or courage parameter anywhere in the entry. The combat AI simply has no such dial for this trait to turn. Whatever “tireless” evokes in the flavour text, inside the fight engine it means a hero who sticks to role, orders and position more reliably, while drawing a whisper more enemy attention.

Among the discipline traits, +0.12 is a strong dose: only Professional (+0.15, with recklessness and kill-hunger dampers attached) carries more, with Vigilant (+0.10, plus a recklessness trim), Steady (+0.08, nothing else) and Traditional (+0.06, plus a kill-hunger trim) below. What makes Tireless the family’s oddball is the rider’s direction. Every other multi-coefficient discipline trait damps something; Tireless is the only one that adds threat, though at +0.04 it is the smallest threat figure in the entire digest, half of Brave’s and a quarter of Reckless’s. An in-register reading: the hero who never stops working is the hero enemies keep noticing.

So the honest one-line summary is “Vigilant’s bigger sibling, with the safety rider swapped for a tiny tax”. Which of those two you want is a role question, and the delve section explains why.

Effects underground

Discipline’s value compounds with delve length. In round two, every hero is roughly where you put them; by round nine, on a flooded floor with a curse ticking, neutral heroes have drifted (chasing a target out of formation here, freelancing a heroic nonsense there), and each drift is a small unplanned hole in a four-hero machine that has no spare parts. A Tireless hero’s AI keeps scoring the assigned job above the interesting alternative, so the delve report shows a hero doing the same correct thing in the late rounds as in the early ones. Against conditions that stretch and grind, that consistency is the difference between a plan surviving contact and merely starting well.

What discipline does not buy is nerve. Tireless does nothing for courage: when a delve turns genuinely bad, this hero’s willingness to keep fighting is whatever it was without the trait. A disciplined hero who folds, folds in excellent formation. If your problem is heroes breaking early, you should be shopping on the courage ladder.

The +0.04 threat rider is close to a rounding error in play: a shade more enemy pressure, every floor, forever. On armoured heroes it is genuinely negligible; on the party’s most fragile member it is merely almost negligible, and worth remembering only when a threat-free alternative costs the same.

Slotting Tireless into your four

Put Tireless on the heroes whose positioning is the plan. Front-liners are ideal: the discipline keeps the wall where the wall belongs, and the token threat rider is, if anything, on-brand for the role. Melee damage dealers benefit nearly as much, since they are the party members most tempted by out-of-formation chases and most expensive to lose when one goes wrong.

Healers and supports want the discipline but are the one place the rider argues at all, since enemy attention on the back line is never welcome, even at +0.04. Vigilant or Steady deliver formation-keeping there without adding any; prefer them at equal price, but do not agonise over the difference.

Trait pairings run on contrast. Tireless meaningfully offsets aggressive baggage on the same hero (against Reckless or Hot-Headed’s −0.2 discipline it claws back more than half the drift), and it compounds with courage traits into the complete late-round package: an Iron-Willed and Tireless front-liner both stays and stays put. Across the party, a disciplined spine frees your kill-hunger carrier to hunt, the same hammer-and-anvil logic that makes the digest’s whole discipline family valuable.

Wages, oaths, recruitment

Managers underrate Tireless for the same reason they overrate the name: nothing about “discipline +0.12” makes a highlight reel. That gap is your margin. Signed at neutral-trait prices for front-line roles, it is among the better wage-to-value entries in the trait table; the only real premium worth paying is for melee-heavy rosters that run long delves, where drift costs the most. Do not pay extra hoping for stamina benefits: the 2.1.8 code has no fatigue or stamina hook for Tireless. What it does have outside the fight is listed in the next section.

Behaviour coefficients ignore ageing, so a Tireless veteran holds formation as well at thirty-nine as at nineteen, which makes this a genuinely safe late-career renewal. Longer delve plans built on that reliability are worth stress-testing in the dungeon yield planner: disciplined parties are exactly the ones that can push deeper floors on schedule. At the oath table the trait is anonymous, in the good sense; it inflates nothing and surprises no one.

Outside the fight

  • Pushing past rest rooms. When a party reaches a rest room, the game looks at the active hero with the highest Leadership. If that hero is Tireless (or Restless, Greedy, Glory Hunter, Ambitious, Reckless, Hot-Headed or Arrogant), there is a 75% chance they wave the party past. The party ransacks the room for 30 gold plus 10 per danger level and rolls for a find, but nobody rests and every active hero gains 5 stress. A normal rest heals each hero 25% of their health and takes 7 stress off, so a Tireless hero with high Leadership is a mixed blessing on a long, bloody delve.
  • Treasure side rooms. When a Tireless leader takes the party into a treasure side room at a fork and wins it, every active hero sheds 4 stress: the leader barely feels the extra fight, and neither do they.
  • “The Roof Gives”. When rain gets through the hall’s roof, you can put a Tireless (or Diligent or Methodical) hero in charge of the repair. It costs nothing and works as well as paying for the proper fix; the hero takes 10 fatigue and gains 3 morale.
  • Flavour. On pair duty the hero speaks with the “tireless” voice shared with Early Riser, Light Sleeper, Vigilant, Watchful and Hardy.

Tireless can never appear with Restless.

Patch-by-patch

Like nearly everything in the current trait table, Tireless has sat still: discipline +0.12 and threat +0.04, unchanged from v1.9.6 through v2.1.8. Every tracked patch has left it alone, which makes it a foundation you can pour a roster onto without checking the notes each version. The hooks outside the fight are read from the 2.1.8 code; earlier versions of this page missed them.

Unchanged since v1.9.6

Datamined from v3.0.0. Values are read from the game's own code.
