Goliath is the strongest heavy-physical race profile, combining +3 Strength with Vitality and Armor Use while sacrificing Agility and Spellcraft.
The heavy front-line profile
Goliath receives +3 Strength, +2 Vitality, +2 Armor Use, and +1 Power. Agility and Spellcraft are both reduced by 2. Growth is neutral at ×1.0, and generated ages range from 16 to 42. The positives cluster around physical durability and force, while the penalties discourage agile and spell-dependent jobs. It is one of the clearest front-line race profiles in the current data.
Race tendencies affect generation; they are not guaranteed attributes or direct multipliers to health and damage. The class-fit calculation weights each tendency by class priorities. A strong score helps identify efficient pairings, but the actual recruit can still miss Threat, Mitigation, or another class signature.
Why Warden leads
Warden is the highest computed match. Strength, Vitality, Armor Use, and Power all appear in the Warden profile, with Vitality the class’s largest weight. Spellcraft is already suppressed at 0.3 and Agility is not listed, so both race penalties are cheap. This alignment reinforces the class’s mixture of tank durability and aggressive physical contribution.
Guardian also makes strong use of Strength, Vitality, and Armor Use, although the race does not directly improve Threat, Parry, or Mitigation. Paladin benefits from Strength, Vitality, and Armor Use while paying little for Agility; its Spellcraft weight is only 0.6. Blademaster gains Strength and Power but loses Agility, creating a more meaningful tradeoff than the tank pairings.
The cost of specialisation
Agility −2 matters for Blademaster and Ranger, and Spellcraft −2 is a direct conflict for Arcanist. That does not make those classes impossible on an individual Goliath, but it raises the standard the actual sheet must meet. A physical appearance or one huge Strength value should not conceal a damaged class core.
On tanks, the penalties overlap little with the displayed recruitment weights. Even there, a race fit cannot replace Threat or Mitigation. Those attributes come from the class roll and remain essential to the job.
Growth and roster timing
The ×1.0 growth modifier is neutral, so Goliath neither pays the slower development cost of several specialised races nor receives Human’s premium. The 16–36 career window is an in-game career parameter. Do not read it through another setting’s lore.
A young Goliath tank can be a development project if the guild has time and a temporary front line. A strong current recruit can fill an immediate vacancy. Compare age, wage, starting attributes, and expected seasons of use instead of allowing neutral growth to disappear from the analysis.
Evaluating the actual recruit
For Warden, require Vitality, Threat, and Mitigation first. Then use Strength, Armor Use, Power, Aggression, Crowd Control, and Resolve to measure the full aggressive tank profile. For Guardian, Threat, Armor Use, Parry, Mitigation, and Vitality remain the core. For Paladin, check Threat, Armor Use, Mitigation, Vitality, and Resolve before rewarding Strength.
On Blademaster, explicitly compare the Strength and Power gains with the Agility loss. Weapon Skill, Critical Strike, Speed, Positioning, and Reflexes still need to be good. The race tendency boosts only part of the damage profile.
Party and trait context
A Goliath tank still needs a dedicated damage class and healer. Build those roles from the class index, then verify named effects in the synergy table. Race identity does not activate a bonus or make a low-damage tank class finish encounters alone.
Traits, wage, and age can overturn a small fit difference. Read the trait analysis before committing to an expensive specialist. A slightly less imposing candidate who remains reliable across a season may provide more value.
Common mistakes
Do not hire by Strength alone. Do not turn a Goliath Blademaster into a presumed best-in-slot pairing without subtracting the Agility penalty. Do not use strong Vitality and Armor Use to excuse poor Threat or Mitigation on a tank. And do not put the race on Arcanist without demanding an actual Spellcraft result that overcame the −2 tendency.

A practical decision rule
Prefer Goliath for Warden, Guardian, or Paladin when the individual passes the appropriate tank-core checks. Use Strength, Vitality, Armor Use, and Power as reinforcement rather than substitution. For Blademaster, require good Agility despite the penalty; for spell classes, require overwhelming evidence. This preserves the value of a highly specialised race without forcing it into every physical-looking role.
The career window above is for a new campaign. Legacy campaigns retain 16–42; an individual hero can also carry their own saved career bounds. They bound the career window; they do not predict how many seasons a particular hero has left.
